I was a USAF Green Hornet Door Gunner on UH-1N's supporting the MACV SOG teams in Loas and Cambodia 71-72 and a AC-130 Spectre gunner in 72-73. We also flew in support of Marine Recon in the DaNang area several times. I have a web site www.thecarman.com that has a short history of SOG and sound clips of an attempted rescue of a SOG team in Cambodia on 23 Jan 72. You can hear the crews intercom, FAC, other gunbirds, gun firing, rockets firing, and ground fire hitting my bird. Audio's and Video's are available. Keep em flying. Jim

Just revisiting site. I added a message back in December when my son had only been gone to Boot Camp about one week. He now has graduated and is a United State Marine. What ahing graduation and participating in the activities at the MCRD in San Diego. He stands taller (25lbsethinner) and prouder than I have ever seen him. I never truly knew what honer, courage and commitment meant until my son went through this incredible experience. I personally look at the world in a new and different light and understand what those of you "few & proud" men and women are doing to make my life as a US citizen greater. The Marines are truly the best branch of our armed forces and my hat is off to all of you past and present serving this country on my behalf. Right now....I'm just enjoying having him home on leave! I've sent and received e-mails from others visiting this site and love to hear experiences of either Marines or parents, so drop a line if you find some time. Thanks, Jill

SEMPER FI; NO OTHER EXPERIENCE HAS IMPACTED MY LIFE GREATER THAN THE TIME I SERVED AS A 'GRUNT'IN VIETNAM( 1ST BATTALION 4TH MARINE REGIMENT; JULY 66 THROUGH AUG, 67) I HAD THE PLEASUR FONDA WHAT I THOUGHT OF HER WHEN SHE VISITED RUTGERS UNIVERSITY IN THE EARLY 70'S PROTESTING THE OTERATIONS IN CAMBODIA. LOOKING FOR ANY MARINES WHO WERE AT CON TIEN , MAY 8TH,1967; WHEN WE WERE OVER-RUN BY TWO REINFORCED BATTALIONS OF NORTH VIETNAMESE REGULARS. OUR M-16's WERE JAMMING BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT SUBSTITUTED CHEAPER 'BALL' POWDER INSTEAD OF 'EXTRUDED' POWDER THAT THE RIFLE WAS DESIGNED TO SHOOT. ALSO, LOOKING FOR CAPTAIN JULE, OUR COMPANY COMMANDER(DELTA Co), WHO WAS WOUNDED AT CON TIEN.

Try Jesus. He is the answer. Our Response is to Receive Jesus #1 - We must repent of our sin. "Repent then and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out."(Acts 3:19) Repentance is not just feeling sorry for our sin. ". . .that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds." (Acts 26:20) Repentance is turning TO God through Jesus and AWAY from our sin. . . . It's like making a U-turn. #2 - We must place our faith in Jesus. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast."(Ephesians 2:8) Faith is not just believing facts about Jesus. "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe shudder." (James 2:19) Faith is trusting in Jesus. It's like taking a trip on an airplane. You wngl never make the trip until you trust the plane enough to get onboard. To trust Jesus means to surrender to him as Lord. To trust Jesus means to surrender to him as Lord. "...if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." (Romans 10:9-10) Surrendering to Jesus as Lord is not just saying we give our lives to Jesus. "Not everyone who says to me, "Lord,Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father in heaven."(Matthew 7:21) Surrendering to Jesus as Lord means giving Jesus control of our lives. That is, we must give all we know of ourselves to all we know of God. To give Jesus control of our lic like driving down the highway with another person. As long as you are driving, you are in itontrol. If you realize you don't know the way, but the o her person does, you might say," You take the wheel and drive." Then the other person is in control and the two of you take the route he or she chooses. As evidence of giving Jesus control, you will want to identify with him. The New Testament way of identification is to confess Jesus publicly (Matthew 10:32) and to follow him in baptism and church membership (Acts 2:41). Three Important Questions: 1.Does what you have been reading make sense to you? 2.Is there any reason you would not be willing to receive God's gift of eternal life? 3.Are you willing to turn from your sin and place your faith in Jesus right now? The Bible says, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." You need to ask the Lord Jesus to save you. Three Important Things: Pray to God, asking him to forgive y, asking him to forgive your sin and acknowledgingf your life. Accept God's promise that when you repent and turn to Christ he will not abandon you. Exampue: Lord please forgive me. I want you as Lord of my life. I want to serve you and spend eternity in heaven with you when i die. Thank you for loving me. Welcome to God's family!

Wonderful pages, and memory provoking notes. Scars are nice.... they let us remember that we were there and who we were with. May the Good Lord heal and keep us together in Spirit and in Truth. My mind still plays those scenes of Marines getting off and on those 34s, and the men who "sat up front" and the guys who kept those birds in the air. I smile each day thinking about them and all who wore their uniforms with pride.... yes even the "short water sailors". I was an A/C electrician with HMM-361, HMM-265 after 361 disbanded in May, 1968. I received my first Air Medal while with 361. I joined 361 in the Phillipines in early Jan, 69, and came back in-country on the USS Iwo Jima. We off loaded at Marble Mountain and operated from there until May.

Thank you for an "OUTSTANDING" web site. My dad served in 'Nam and I often want to talk to him about it, but it is a hard subject. I think the young people of America need to learn more about the real history made in 'Nam from those who lived it. Maybe then they would appreciate the freedom of America and stop gunning each other down in the streets over clothes. Thank you for a real history lesson.

Hello, I'm a retired marine (6113/6119) and I just wanted to say that I enjoyed your site. I was never In HMH-361, but many of my frineds were there in Vietnam. Do you remember Al Monteil, Alan Morray, or a Sgt. Snipes? I met them in 1970 when they returned from Vietnam. They could have been in HMH-363 or 362. I was a crew chief in HMH-462 many years later. I am totally moved as I look at this page. I wrote a poem when I was 16 yrs old because my brother was MIA..He, too was a Marine. The poem I wrote is entitled "THINK ABOUT IT, BUDDY", and it's about a marine writing a letter home to his buddy who had avoided the draft and did not serve his country. I tip my hat to you and to all of the veterans who went, who died, who fought, and who returned to protect our rights as United States Citizens. We do love you, the Veterans. THe page is a wonderful tribute to all of the Veterans of every war. God Bless You. Kaye

Dear Al - Thank you for your Beautiful Tribute to those who have Served HUmanity by Serving in the Armed Forces! I have often wondered what it must be like for those who are Called to this Duty; and have recently had the pleasure to befriend One who has provided me with many answers - most of which I AM very, very sad to hear of. It may appear that the Viet Nam War is long over for many of us; but, if One still suffers, All suffer, as we are indeed but ONE! It is my Prayer that in our Lifetime, we will see an end to the destruction of Life, as we learn to Love EVERY Childe God has Gifted to this Earth! May you be Blessed; and may Each Heart that is still experiencing the Wounds of War be Healed in the Name of All that is LOVE! Walk in Harmony and Perfection! Roseanne

Hi! Just surfed in after a Military Patch word search. I collect helicoter patches. Great site! I was going to become a helo pilot in 1969 but went to college instead. Got into the film industry and now work on shows like "Wings" (discovery channel) and "COPS". I've downloaded some of your chopper photos. They are great. Thanks again.

However HMX-1 was diffcult to get out of unless the skipper wanted you out, you died or retired. Ii took the last choice and retired with 22 years as a MSGT.

Great page! I enjoyed it very much. Keep up the fantasticwork and I'll pass the word on. Surfed in looking for someof the Old Corps members. Anyone out there who was with mein the Nam I'm looking to hear from you. Echo 2/4, 12/68 to1/70, and Delta 1/5 5/70 until I was medivaced to Japan 9/70. Also I am still looking for anyone who was on FSB Russell on the evening of the 24th and morning of the 25th of February,69. My(19th) birthday was the 24th of February, and I was talking to a Marine from Lykens, Pa just before I went on watch and we got hit, I never heard from him after that. I'mnot sure of his status after the attack. I don't rememberhis name, but he was with 81's attached to E-2/4 and I know that he was from Lykens, Pa. Any clues let me hear from you.

My fathers' name was Frank W. Wilson, and he died on 6/6/65, while taking off from the USS IWO JIMA, off Chu Lai. I am looking for some information on the ship that he was on, and possibly trying to contact some of the people who were on the ship with him. He was a part of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 161, and I don't even know what that means, or how to go about finding out what that means. Can you help me find out? Thank you, bobbie wilson sartor, and the rest of Frank's children.

My husband is currently overseas working with the NATO peacekeeping effort. I frequently visit sights that remind me of the importance of the Marine Corps and of my husband. Many people do not realize that through peace time, husbands still leave their families for six months to one year at a time. It is always an ongoing effort. I did enjoy your sight. Thank you.
