I was really pleased to see that there is a restoration in progress with what I knew as the HUS.
I was the Asst Communication Officer in MAG 36 in 1956 and remember quite vividly when the first three HUS's did a fly by as the group stood at attention at MCAF El Toro (LTA). The band played..of all things ..China Night.
Colonel Frank Payne was the group CO, Lt Col "Billy" Mitchell was the 3 and Major Craig C. Crabb was my boss in the communications shop.
As a ground officer I had the collateral duty of being the group provost marshal. I remember one night at the north end of the hanger by 361 when one of my guards closed the hanger door on a rotor blade. The av safety officer didn't have a sense of humor ! He told me to "solve the problem" so I took my gunny's advice and published a group order prohibiting the closing of hanger doors on rotor blades...it must have worked ! Semper Fi !!
