I have a web site www.thecarman.com that has a short history of SOG and sound clips of an attempted rescue of a SOG team in Cambodia on 23 Jan 72. You can hear the crews intercom, FAC, other gunbirds, gun firing, rockets firing, and ground fire hitting my bird. Audio's and Video's are available. Keep em flying. Jim

Just revisiting site. I added a message back in December when my son had only been gone to Boot Camp about one week. He now has graduated and is a United State Marine. What ahing graduation and participating in the activities at the MCRD in San Diego. He stands taller (25lbsethinner) and prouder than I have ever seen him. I never truly knew what honer, courage and commitment meant until my son went through this incredible experience. I personally look at the world in a new and different light and understand what those of you "few & proud" men and women are doing to make my life as a US citizen greater. The Marines are truly the best branch of our armed forces and my hat is off to all of you past and present serving this country on my behalf. Right now....I'm just enjoying having him home on leave! I've sent and received e-mails from others visiting this site and love to hear experiences of either Marines or parents, so drop a line if you find some time. Thanks, Jill

Served one tour of duty in V.N. with Fox Co.2/5-1 Mar.Div. in the period 1967-1968. Its great to be able to find military related web sites and info on the Internet especially about the Marine Corps. Try Jesus. He is the answer. Our Response is to Receive Jesus #1 - We must repent of our sin. "Repent then and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out."(Acts 3:19) Repentance is not just feeling sorry for our sin. ". . .that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds." (Acts 26:20) Repentance is turning TO God through Jesus and AWAY from our sin. . . . It's like making a U-turn. #2 - We must place our faith in Jesus. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast."(Ephesians 2:8) Faith is not just believing facts about Jesus. "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe shudder." (James 2:19) Faith is trusting in Jesus. It's like taking a trip on an airplane. You wngl never make the trip until you trust the plane enough to get onboard. To trust Jesus means to surrender to him as Lord. To trust Jesus means to surrender to him as Lord. "...if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." (Romans 10:9-10) Surrendering to Jesus as Lord is not just saying we give our lives to Jesus. "Not everyone who says to me, "Lord,Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father in heaven."(Matthew 7:21) Surrendering to Jesus as Lord means giving Jesus control of our lives. That is, we must give all we know of ourselves to all we know of God. To give Jesus control of our lic like driving down the highway with another person. As long as you are driving, you are in itontrol. If you realize you don't know the way, but the o her person does, you might say," You take the wheel and drive." Then the other person is in control and the two of you take the route he or she chooses. As evidence of giving Jesus control, you will want to identify with him. The New Testament way of identification is to confess Jesus publicly (Matthew 10:32) and to follow him in baptism and church membership (Acts 2:41). Three Important Questions: 1.Does what you have been reading make sense to you? 2.Is there any reason you would not be willing to receive God's gift of eternal life? 3.Are you willing to turn from your sin and place your faith in Jesus right now? The Bible says, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." You need to ask the Lord Jesus to save you. Three Important Things: Pray to God, asking him to forgive y, asking him to forgive your sin and acknowledgingf your life. Accept God's promise that when you repent and turn to Christ he will not abandon you. Exampue: Lord please forgive me. I want you as Lord of my life. I want to serve you and spend eternity in heaven with you when i die. Thank you for loving me. Welcome to God's family!

Wonderful pages, and memory provoking notes. Scars are nice.... they let us remember that we were there and who we were with. May the Good Lord heal and keep us together in Spirit and in Truth. My mind still plays those scenes of Marines getting off and on those 34s, and the men who "sat up front" and the guys who kept those birds in the air. Thank you for an "OUTSTANDING" web site. My dad served in 'Nam and I often want to talk to him about it, but it is a hard subject. I think the young people of America need to learn more about the real history made in 'Nam from those who lived it. Maybe then they would appreciate the freedom of America and stop gunning each other down in the streets over clothes. Thank you for a real history lesson.

I am impressed. I owe my life to seven Air Wingers: (A) the two A-4 drivers who delivered the strike that let in the '46 to pick up my broken and bleeding ass from Go Noi Island; (B) the four crewmen of the CH-46 who carted me outta there; and (C) the FAC who made it all happen. Much as it is that I will never know who they were, I want to raise a beer in their honor. LCpl, H/2/5, 1stMarDiv, Nov 1968. Semper Fi.

Mainly cause I love the machine and want to fly it for a career, but also because it feels like a service which I never gave. Respectful of all War Vets, but especially those who flew. Best wishes, and continually hoping that our country has returned its debt to all you who served. Thanks Friend.

I would like to thank all veterens who read my message, I have the utmost respect for your honor, courage, and patriotism. Thank you for all you have done, God Bless..

Man! This site evokes some very mixed emotions. I went from near tears to laughter, all within the same few minutes! I still get goose bumps from the marching music, even after all these years. God has blessed us with this country, but it took many sacrifices to keep it free and to preserve our our rights. I appreciate our Marine Corps and this wonderful site!!

I am totally moved as I look at this page. I wrote a poem when I was 16 yrs old because my brother was MIA..He, too was a Marine. The poem I wrote is entitled "THINK ABOUT IT, BUDDY", and it's about a marine writing a letter home to his buddy who had avoided the draft and did not serve his country. I tip my hat to you and to all of the veterans who went, who died, who fought, and who returned to protect our rights as United States Citizens. We do love you, the Veterans. THe page is a wonderful tribute to all of the Veterans of every war. God Bless You. Kaye

Dear Al - Thank you for your Beautiful Tribute to those who have Served HUmanity by Serving in the Armed Forces! I have often wondered what it must be like for those who are Called to this Duty; and have recently had the pleasure to befriend One who has provided me with many answers - most of which I AM very, very sad to hear of. It may appear that the Viet Nam War is long over for many of us; but, if One still suffers, All suffer, as we are indeed but ONE! It is my Prayer that in our Lifetime, we will see an end to the destruction of Life, as we learn to Love EVERY Childe God has Gifted to this Earth! May you be Blessed; and may Each Heart that is still experiencing the Wounds of War be Healed in the Name of All that is LOVE! Walk in Harmony and Perfection! Roseanne

HMM-361 OA Chief. 1965 / 1966. I almost had it in the bag to return to the squadron while it was reforming at New River with 53s, as the maintenance chief. However HMX-1 was diffcult to get out of unless the skipper wanted you out, you died or retired. Ii took the last choice and retired with 22 years as a MSGT.

My fathers' name was Frank W. Wilson, and he died on 6/6/65, while taking off from the USS IWO JIMA, off Chu Lai. I am looking for some information on the ship that he was on, and possibly trying to contact some of the people who were on the ship with him. He was a part of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 161, and I don't even know what that means, or how to go about finding out what that means. Can you help me find out? Thank you, bobbie wilson sartor, and the rest of Frank's children.

My husband is currently overseas working with the NATO peacekeeping effort. I frequently visit sights that remind me of the importance of the Marine Corps and of my husband. Many people do not realize that through peace time, husbands still leave their families for six months to one year at a time. It is always an ongoing effort. I did enjoy your sight. Thank you.
